Senior Chemist/Engineer - Solid Sorbents

Our Advanced Materials and Catalyst (AM&C) division is on the hunt for a Senior Chemist/Engineer-Solid Sorbents. ROLE SUMMARY This critical senior technical leadership role is responsible for leading all aspects of the technical development programs relating to solid sorbents for Ecovyst Advanced Materials & Catalysts (AM&C) emerging markets including metals, organic pollutants, and carbon capture (CC).This individual will bring technical expertise and significant experience in solid sorbents for emerging applications to the organization. This individual will take the lead enhancing our capabilities to characterize solid sorbents and evaluate their performance, developing analytical procedures for quality assurance, working with production on scale up, and critically developing our unique value propositions for these markets. The role will also maintain insights of these emerging technologies and applications. This individual will network and work closely with peers in the R&D team, the New Business Development Manager, and the Operations Team of Ecovyst Advanced Silicas Business, as well as target customers to drive the new sorbent product development projects to commercialization. RESPONSIBILITIES Be the organization's go-to expert for solid sorbent chemistries and applications, sharing knowledge broadly across the organization and driving the organization to build new competencies in this emerging market. Understand customer needs and key market trends. Acquire and maintain insights into technology trends for the development of sorbents and their applications. Work closely with the technical and commercial leaders to identify and screen potential opportunities and define the value propositions to assist the decision-making process. Support development of innovative silica-based sorbents. Collaborate closely with Analytical Department to establish capabilities for characterizing solid sorbents and testing their performance. Communicate results and conclusions to customers gaining their buy-in to select Ecovyst as their partner. Bring feedback to Ecovyst to modify and enhance our technical solutions. Develop project plans and drive the organization to deliver on commitments. Provide technical support to the Operations Team in process development and product quality assurance. Provide technical support to customers on the use of Ecovyst silica-based sorbents. Supervise technician(s) working on project areas. Note:
Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate by Management may be added at any time. EDUCATION PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field with a focus on solid sorbents is essential. EXPERIENCE
Qualifications:
5
years working experience in industrial or academic environment with 3
years in solid sorbents, ideally carbon capture focused. Deep understanding of the relationship between solid sorbent characteristics and its function. Knowledge and/or experience in applying solid sorbents to capture CO2 from different point sources and/or air. Expertise in characterizing solid sorbents, particularly silica-based sorbents, for physical and chemical properties. Expertise and hands-on experience in conducting performance testing on solid sorbents. Experience in establishing lab testing capabilities for solid sorbents. Expertise and hands-on experience in synthesizing solid sorbents a plus.
